From October 16 to 19, Abasio Escalante, the Director-General of the Salvadoran Ministry of Education's Higher Education Department, led a 11-member delegation to visit HEU for a four-day exchange. Vice President YU Zhiwen warmly welcomed the delegation in the Conference Room on the 8th floor of the Main Building.

    YU Zhiwen extended a warm welcome to the delegation and provided an overview of the university. YU Zhiwen highlighted the great potential and broad prospects in the exchanges and cooperation in the field of higher education between China and Salvador, and stated that the university would uphold the principle of win-win cooperation and long-term development, and share the achievements and experience of higher education reform with Salvadoran universities, jointly improving the education level of both sides. It is hoped that the two sides will establish a lasting partnership and cooperate in the fields of student exchanges, teacher training and Chinese teaching and education, so as to contribute to the development of bilateral relations.

    Absio Escalant agreed that China’s education model continues to innovate and develop, achieving fruitful results, and he hopes to learn more about China’s higher education model through this visit, so as to strengthen the ties between the educational institutions, improve the education level, deepen the friendship, and jointly promote the development and prosperity of the two countries.

    The heads of departments and colleges concerned reported on the school’s ideas and measures in teaching and education, and offered an overview of the Southampton Ocean Engineering Joint Institute at HEU.

    During the visit, the delegation spent time in the School of Naval Architecture, the School of Intelligence, the School of Nuclear Science and the CICE, and conducted in-depth exchanges on cooperation intentions.

    In order to make the delegation better understand China and the development of higher education and science and technology in Heilongjiang, HEU carefully arranged visits to the Heilongjiang Provincial Department of Education, Harbin Institute of Technology, Harbin Electric Group Steam Turbine Factory Co., Ltd., Harbin Railway Vocational and Technical College, not only providing the delegation with a more intuitive and profound understanding of the development of education, science and technology, industry and vocational education, but also laying a solid foundation for deeper cooperation and exchanges in the future. The Director-General, Mr. Abbassio, said that the visit was carefully arranged and achieved fruitful results, which far exceeded expectations. They were amazed by the outstanding achievements of China’s higher education, marveled at China’s infrastructure construction, and were impressed by the diligence and wisdom of the Chinese people, and will report to the government what they have seen in China after returning home, and promote the cooperation in related fields as soon as possible.

    China and Salvador established diplomatic relations in 2018, and in September this year, Vice Minister of Education CHEN Jie with a delegation visited Salvador and signed an agreement on mutual recognition of higher education qualifications and degrees between the two countries, opening a new chapter in education cooperation. The delegation is the very first visit to China since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Salvador, and it is also a positive measure to implement the diplomatic achievements of the two heads of state.

    During the delegation’s visit, HEU signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation with six universities, including the Central American University, the Albert Fasse Flair University of El Salvador, the Dr. Andrea Pello University, the University of Songsonate, the Evangelical University of El Salvador, and the University of the East. The visit has achieved good results, further enriched the connotation of the development of bilateral relations between China and Salvador, and made important contributions to promoting and deepening educational cooperation and exchanges between the two countries.
